After performing in Thamaga, Kwesta says a long discussed collaboration with William Last KRM remains unfinished business.
TLOTLO KEBINAKGABO
Celebrated South African hip hop artist Kwesta has revealed that he still owes Botswana’s comedian, musician and content creator William Last KRM a collaboration.
Speaking to this publication after his performance at the Pacers Drip event in Thamaga over the weekend, Kwesta said several conversations about collaborations with Botswana artists have taken place over the years, but not all of them came to fruition.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
“I have met with a few artists from this side and we talked of collaborations,” said Kwesta, whose real name is Senzo Mfundo Vilakazi. “It’s just that the talks did not materialize. But I know who I owe. I owe William Last. He reached out to me and it’s just that I got busy, but I’ll get back to him and make sure I pay Botswana its debt.”
The rapper delivered a robust performance backed by a live band whose smooth instrumentation added depth to an already energetic set. Fans sang along as he went through some of his biggest records, including Ngud’, Spirit and Ngiyaz’fela Ngawe.
DRIP ENERGY
The crowd response appeared to leave a lasting impression on the award winning artist.
“I love it. I love the crowd, they were so super,” he said. “I love the country. I’ve been here a couple of times. I liked the energy here at Drip and enjoyed every moment.”
NEW MUSIC
Kwesta also revealed that he is preparing a new album to mark two decades in the music industry. Before then, fans can expect a steady stream of singles throughout the year as he builds momentum toward the project.
The rapper remains one of South Africa’s most decorated hip hop artists, with a trophy cabinet that includes six South African Music Awards, four South African Hip Hop Awards, one MTV Africa Music Award and one Metro FM Award.
WILLIAM LAST
William Last KRM, born Bofelo William Molebatsi on March 8, 1996, is one of Botswana’s biggest internet personalities. The comedian, content creator and musician rose to international prominence through viral comedy skits on platforms such as TikTok and Facebook, attracting the attention of global stars including Chris Brown and Chris Rock.
The Drip event also featured performances from Bantu, Nasty C and Khuli Chana, among others.
