While the festive season always brings its fair share of stars, one name stood out among the rest: Robotic. This 21-year-old DJ and Afro-Tech producer, born Emmanuel Ketlogetswe in Mookane, captured hearts and moved feet with his electrifying sets.
With an inspiring journey and unmatched stage presence, Robotic has solidified his place as one of Botswana’s most exciting talents to watch this year.
Festival favourite
Robotic’s rise to fame began with a simple love for music. “I grew up loving music, and after my Form 5, I started music production with my phone,” he told Time Out.
His big break came in 2022 when he was offered a chance to perform at a gig in Molepolole. “I learned everything on stage, right there and then, and the response was amazing,” he said.
Since then, Robotic has been a regular performer at local venues, wowing audiences with his innovative Afro-Tech sound and skills. Inspired by South African DJ Shimza, Robotic’s style combines energetic, groove-driven beats with a flair for keeping the crowd on their feet.
A stage presence like no other
What sets Robotic apart is his exceptional live performances. A phenomenon on stage, he performs without headphones, a rarity in the DJ world. “I never prep for a gig, but once I step on stage, my spirit and talent take over, and the crowd is highly impressed,” he said.
His first gig at Rhapsody’s Restaurant in Gaborone left the audience amazed by his seamless mixing skills. Since then, he’s performed at over 30 gigs during the festive season alone, blending tracks with precision and captivating energy that creates an atmosphere both euphoric and soul-stirring.
“Ella”: A visionary debut
Robotic isn’t just a deejay; he’s also a producer with a 21-track Afro-Tech and Afro-House album titled Ella, released in November last year. The number of tracks is symbolic, marking his 21st birthday.
The album features hits like Lost, Life Journey, and Broken, which have quickly become fan favorites. “I named the album Ella because one day I’ll have a daughter named Ella, and I want her to find this body of work that people have been loving and jamming to,” he explained.
The future of afro-tech
Robotic’s talent and vision are setting him up for international success. “I was drawn to Afro-Tech because I believe this is the music that will take me abroad,” he stated confidently. With a unique style and a growing fan base, his dream of performing around the world feels within reach.
As he focuses on music production this year, Robotic is a name that’s sure to be on everyone’s radar. “Watch the space,” he said with a smile.
