South African Hip Hop artist and Idols SA host, ProVerb popularly known as Tebogo Thekiso celebrated the 13th anniversary of his debut release, “The Book of ProVerb”  last week at Chez Nicolas, CBD.
The event was definitely a great night out for fans of old-school, boom-bap hip hop featuring local legends Scar, Foster Juliano, Ban T, Izzy, Khenzo, Linxstar, Scratch and  Tumie Blackace who joined the night’s cypher.
“The Book of ProVerb” was released in 2005 and is celebrated as an African Hip Hop classic because of  Proverb’s legendary  punchlines and lyricism. One of the highlights of the night his performance of  ‘For the Women’, an ode to the women in his life.
“I’m eternally grateful that I wrote, recorded and get to perform the song ‘Women’. My mom cried the first time I played her this song, but now I pray that she smiles from heaven as I continue to celebrate her life and strive to make her proud,” ProVerb said.
Beyond the celebration of the album, which was also a reward for Batswana’s patience and support, it was a great networking opportunity for ProVerb, local artists and his  fans under one roof.  “First I came to it, second I saw through it, third I conquered this here hip hip music! I thoroughly enjoyed performing in Gaborone,” he said.
