GOSEGO MOTSUMI

Following the success of their first hip hop event in Eswatini, Kenya and Mozambique, two of the genre’s biggest artists in Africa, Cassper Nyovest and Nasty-C, will bring the Botswana edition of the show to the Game City Rooftop Parkade in Gaborone on Friday 8 September 2023.

The South African headliners will feature the crème de la crème of Botswana’s hip-hop scene at the show that is a part of their “African Throne” World Tour.

“The name ‘African Throne’ symbolises a powerful and regal representation of African music and artists,” the spokesperson of the event, Michael Hall, said in an interview.

A throne of influence

“The name suggests that they are taking a prominent and authoritative position in the music industry, much like sitting on a throne of influence and talent.”

He added that the event will also show solidarity and a celebration of Botswana’s musical prowess, hence it will feature a star-studded lineup of local acts.

They include Ban-T, Veezo, DJ Frostbite, DJ N.S.I, Casper The DJ, DizzyDee, and Neo Played It while renowned broadcaster of Channel O’s #BotsTop5 fame, Mdu Tha Party, will be the host.

Locally relevant

Said Hall: “The lineup is locally relevant, well rounded and diverse in their musical talents.

“Each of these artists brings their unique style and flair to the stage, promising to set the audience ablaze with their impressive musical talent and captivating stage presence.

“Mdu Tha Party’s magnetic personality will keep the energy high and the excitement buzzing throughout the night.”

The aim of the tour, which will also take place in Zambia, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and South Africa among other countries, is to showcase the richness of African hip-hop culture in a global context.

Global influence

The fusion of Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C’s global influence with rich local flavours promises an unparalleled experience for all attendees.

On the African Throne World Tour, the artists do not just perform but invite their fans on a journey that celebrates the essence of Africa and its influence on the global hip-hop scene.

“This will be a full circle moment for Cassper Nyovest because the first time he headlined an event outside of South Africa was right here in Botswana,” Hall pointed out.

“So the show promises to be extra special because the two artists have a connection to Botswana.

An unforgettable night

“The African Throne Tour is set to be an unforgettable night that showcases the very best of African hip-hop and celebrates the vibrant cultural tapestry of Botswana and the continent at large.”
