TV show to help grow gospel music in Botswana

GOSEGO MOTSUMI

The CEO of local television show, The Melody Gospel TV show Otsogile Tseleng says the show will help increase the number of gospel artists in Botswana.
Speaking to Time Out at the camp in Woodpecker, Notwane where 40 contestants attended master classes to equip themselves with skills in vocal art, theory of music, physical fitness and event management among others which are key to succeeding in show business, Tseleng said the genre of gospel had fewer artists compared to other genres. “We would like to see those numbers growing, that is why we are investing our time and funds to mentor artists that will succeed in this field,” he said.
The television show is working on 13 episodes that will be aired in Botswana Television and the winner of the competition will walk away with P100 000, a recording and distribution deal, the second runner up takes P20 000 while the third runner up will be taking P10 000. “The production of this television show is sponsored by Malakia Maseko of Chande Transport and Tours at the tune of P910 000 and the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture sponsors the price money at the tune of P287 250. The ministry is still holding on to the price money to be awarded to the winner because we want to avoid situations where contestants are not paid,” Tseleng said.
The show mentor, Taolo Moshaga urged contestants to take advantage of the platform to build their brands and grow from the experience. “Botswana is one of the best countries in the world and there are endless opportunities here. During our time there weren’t opportunities like these and I urge you all to take advantage of them,” he said
