FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Congress Party (BCP) Youth League has called on the Sebina Councillor Kemmonye Amon to resign over allegations that he impregnated a 16 year old student.This follows an allegedly leaked conversation between the Member of Parliament for Shashe West Fidelis Molao and Sebina Councillor- who purportedly tried to conceal the case.
BCP Youth League President Tumiso Chillyboy Rakgare says the Councilor should do the honourable thing and resign with immediate effect. “If he fails to resign, we are going to force him because he will be setting the wrong precedence to society that there is nothing wrong in impregnating a minor student. This councillor must account for his actions because he has ruined the child’s future and killed her self-esteem. Restoring self-esteem is going to be her big challenge,” said Rakgare.
Though cagey about what their plans entail, Rakgare explained that during the course of the week, the BCP will start releasing its plans that will force him to resign. “Currently we are still collecting the necessary information and hopefully by Tuesday this week we will do something at Sebina that is part of our plan that will make Amon to resign. If our plans fail, we are going to force him to resign,” he said.
In addition Rakgare is of the view that Amon’s party Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) should also take responsibility and force their councillor to resign and show seriousness in protecting rights of the girl child.
