The COVID-19 Presidential Task Team Coordinator, Dr. Kereng Masupu has assured Batswana that he will be back on duty any time soon, because of his speedy recovery.

He was speaking in an interview with The Botswana Gazette. Dr. Masupu tested positive for COVID-19 with about seven other officials of the Presidential Task Team Offices on the 8th of July 2020.

After his test results were made public, there were misgivings by members of the public as well as some Members of Parliament (MPs) that Dr. Masupu’s illness could have been a smoothly engineered plot to catapult social media’s favourite, Professor Mosepele Mosepele to the top.

Prof. Mosepele earned himself some respect as a result of his composure and calm demeanor when it comes to COVID-19 related issues. Prior to the release of Dr. Masupu’s test results, Prof. Mosepele had resigned from the Task-Force for unknown reasons, a decision he rescinded after meeting President Mokgweetsi Masisi.

The President had declined to accept his resignation, and rather demanded meeting him to discuss the resignation. In an interview, Dr. Masupu said, “I am recovering well. It is not easy but I am getting there. I will be back on duty, God willing.”

Dr. Masupu is a seasoned Epidemiologist. He is also a globally respected medical giant. The COVID-19 recovery time is normally about two weeks, for people with a mild condition, while for the critical it could take about three to six weeks.

As of the 13th August 2020, Botswana had recorded about 427 confirmed cases, 288 active, 136 recovered and 3 deceased.
