Following a meeting with Gaborone churches, the Gaborone city Mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe will meet Gaborone business community on Wednesday over breakfast at a meeting at Avani hotel in what is expected to be a special dialogue on business and the Gaborone Mayor’s Marathon slated for September 22, 2018.
The Mayor says the marathon is aimed at uniting the city against social ills, promoting good health and reigniting the city’s spark of being the ultimate tourism and investment destination.
In an interview with this publication, Thutlwe said several organizations and business entities leaders have already confirmed their availability for the much anticipated meeting to dialogue over the business environment and ways to support his quest to better the city. “The support is overwhelming, and I feel inspired to do more to better this city into a business hub and safer place for its inhabitants and those that do business in it,” he said.
The meeting with the business community follows a meeting with Pastors at Avani last week where various religious movements promised the Mayor their support in his initiatives to develop the city.
The pastors also used the opportunity to call on Thutlwe to engage the central government on issues like plot allocations and partnerships to fight social ills.
The 3rd instalment of the mayor’s marathon is being led by Gaborone City Council in conjunction with Club Media Productions.
The marathon aims to mobilize at least 8000 people for participation, including companies, education institutions, churches as well as interested individuals.
Thutlwe promised the media during a press conference last-week that the marathon is aimed at bringing positive change to the city.
