More in the Dock with Moagi?

Prosecutors signal that former minister Lefoko Moagi may not be the only accused as investigations into the case continue.

GAZETTE REPORTER

Former Minister of Minerals, Green Technology and Energy Security Lefoko Moagi may soon be joined by others in the dock, with the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) indicating that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

CASE STILL WIDENING

Moagi appeared before Gaborone Regional Magistrate Mareledi Dipate on Tuesday, where the prosecution described the matter as an initial appearance. The State told the court that inquiries remain at an early stage and could widen once investigations are concluded.

NO NAMES RELEASED

While no additional suspects were named, prosecutors indicated that more accused persons could be added to the case, raising questions about the potential scope of the matter.

BAIL CONDITIONS

Moagi was granted bail of P5,000 after both parties agreed on conditions. He is required to cooperate with investigators, submit all requested documentation to the State by 12 March, notify the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) of any travel plans, and attend court whenever required.

PROCEDURAL STAGE

During proceedings, Moagi was formally advised of multiple charges linked to alleged misconduct during his time in public office. However, the court did not delve into detailed evidence, noting that investigations are still ongoing.
