GU Edging Closer As Title Race Heats Up

Gaborone United restored their four point advantage in the Botswana Premier League title race as they secured a 2-0 victory BDF XI. GU secured the victory courtesy of goals from regular goal getters Thero Setsile and Thatayaone Kgamanyane.

Moyagoleele managed to avenge their early season defeat against the army side to edge closer to securing a league title with six games to play. GU still has the luxury of a game in hand over closest title rivals Township Rollers as the race reaches the final stretch of the season.

Innocent Morapedi’s charges will face Morupule Wanderers, Masitaoka FC, Mahalapye Railway Highlanders, Sua Flamengoes, Notwane and Jwaneng Galaxy in the last few games of the season. If first round results are anything to go by GU has a psychological advantage over their next six opponents as they were unbeaten against them earlier this season.

However, their opponents have different targets to fight for towards the end of the season and they will not be expected to roll the red carpet for Moyagoleele. In the first round they recorded victories over Sua, Higlanders, Galaxy, Notwane and Masitaoka before drawing against Morupule Wanderers.

GU needs at least 15 out 18 points to secure the league title regardless of Rollers’ results in the title run-in.
