GU pocketed P500 000 in Orebonye, Ditlhokwe sale

  • GU includes 30 percent sell on clause to benefit from future sale of players
  • Black Forest to also benefit from Kgamanyane’s sale to Chippa United

Cash strapped local giants Gaborone United reportedly pocketed a figure within the range of P500 000 for the sale of Tumisang Orebonye and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe to arch rivals Township Rollers. GU sold the players in a deal which also saw Jackson Lesole join Rollers in a free transfer as his contract at GU had elapsed.
This publication has been reliably informed that Rollers paid a fee within the region of P500 000 as a package deal for Orebonye and Ditlhokwe, this also includes a 30 percent sell on clause for the future sale of either player abroad.
GU will also pocket 30 percent of any transfer fee Rollers receives for each player if they ever move outside Botswana. Orebonye is 21 years old while Ditlhokwe is 19 years old, the club stated that the most logical thing to do was to set up a clause in which they would also benefit from in the near future.
Reached for comment, a GU official could not confirm nor deny the transfer fee but stated that the figure was enough for them to sell without any hesitation. He revealed that the player had offers from South Africa and Europe but they had no option but to sell him to local rivals Rollers because Popa had been the only club which submitted a formal offer.
“We sold them at a very good fee for local players. In the case of Orebonye the expectation was tat he would be sold to South Africa, he even attracted interest from Sweden but it was difficult to sell him abroad. The player had also indicated that he wanted to leave so we had to swallow our pride and negotiate a transfer and do business with a rival club. To their credit, the transfer was completed without any problems, we received the fee without any delays,” the official told Gazette Sport.
Another report reaching this publication concerning GU’s transfers suggests that Black Forest will gain a 20 percent sell on fee from the transfer which saw Thatayaone Kgamanyane move to Chippa United from GU. The player was sold for a fee believed to be within the P1 million range, Forest and GU are currently in the process of finalizing the payment of the sell on fee.
