Zebras captain Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has sustained an undisclosed injury that looks likely to sideline him for several weeks. Ditlhokwe has missed Supersport United’s last two games, his absence being conspicuous in the club’s usually solid rearguard.
The former Township Rollers defender helped his South African side record an impressive five clean sheets in the first seven games of the 2021/2022 DSTV Premiership season. Since being ruled out through injury, Ditlhokwe has missed the shock 2-1 defeat against Royal AM FC and the 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy.
The Botswana international has formed a solid defensive partnership with fellow centreback Luke Fleurs. Both players were missing during the Royal AM FC defeat as Kaitano Tembo’s charges were forced into fielding a makeshift defence.
The Royal AM defeat was Supersport’s second successive loss but the club got back its to winning ways last Friday against TS Galaxy. Supersport’s goals were scored by Thamsanqa Gabuza and Sipho Mbule. In previous seasons, Ditlhokwe has largely been injury-free but the latest setback has disturbed his rhythm and put Supersport in danger of having to cope without their first choice central defender.
Since joining Supersport in January 2019, Ditlhokwe has played in 44 league games and helped the club record 16 clean sheets in that period.
