The Botswana Premier League Outfit, Sua Flamingoes have appointed the youthful Ofentse Khwese as the club’s General Manager (GM) after his short stint as the acting GM for Bafana Ba Letswai as they are affectionately known in local football circles.
He has been at the helm of the team as an overseer for the past nine months following the suspension of the then GM, Ofentse Motlogelwa who was eventually fired by the club’s management last year. Khwese who joined the team in 2021 as a media officer has begun his new role with immediate effect and his contract will run until July 2024.
In a subsequent interview with Gazette Sport, Khwese said he is looking forward to advancing the team and turning it into a more professional side that can attract investors and win titles. “I must commend the Sua Flamingoes management for entrusting me with this role because it is not easy to find a GM of my age but they strongly believe in my work ethic. It’s been nine months acting in this position and I must say the team has made progress. When you are a GM you have the full responsibility of the team and make sure that the players welfare is prioritized, bring sponsors on board and generally make sure that the team is in good state. I have gained the much needed experience during my previous learnings, so I am very grateful and promises nothing but success within the team’s all departments,” he said.
He further stated that their main aim is to contest for at least a top eight finish in the current league season while maintaining their league status. “This is not an easy league season, because we have had our up and downs as a team but now everything is back on track. We are aiming to finish within the top eight or even much higher than that because we have the depth and quality at our disposal. The players have been responding well and they have shown that zeal to do well and I must say everyone is happy at the team. What is more important is consistency thus getting maximum points whenever is possible in order for us to achieve our goals,” Khwese said.
Sua Flamingoes recently roped in the Serbian Gaffer, Nikola Kavazovic as the head coach following Rahman Gumbo’s sacking in December. They are currently in position seven in the Botswana Premier League log standings with 21 points from 16 rounds of play. They recently won 3-1 against the struggling Extension Gunners who are on position 15 out of 16 contesting teams.
Next on their radar is Morupule Wanderers on the 25th of February at Serowe Sports complex.
