Makufa SC have ended the first round of the 2019-2019 Kweneng Region Women’s Football League as the league leaders but this weekend’s heavy defeat at the hands of title rival Mexican Girls FC has given them a wake-up call. The defeat has also left them with a slender one point lead over Mexican Girls in the title race.

The league leaders were previously unbeaten heading into the weekend game against their rivals, they had won six consecutive games but a 10-2 defeat inflicted by Mexican Girls has seen the log leaders end the first round on a sad note. The 10-2 defeat was their first setback of the season, they will have to wait for January to get back to winning ways as the league has now gone for a mid-season break.

Mexican Girls have now made up ground on the leaders, they had previously been derailed by two draws against Divine Brains and BDF XI. They are now the only unbeaten team in the league, they are also the league’s highest scoring team with 50 goals so far.

A huge chunk of those 50 goals has been scored by Sega Didukanyane (15 goals), Keitumetse Dithebe (11 goals) and Esa Galekhutle (9 goals). Mexican Girls also boast the joint second best defence in the league with only 12 goals conceded, it is a record they share with fourth placed Sikalekeke while BDF XI have conceded the least number of goals (10 goals).

The second round of the league will see Makufa and Mexican Girls slug it out again for the title with only 7 games left to play, BDF XI cannot be underestimated as they are only five points adrift in the title race.
