Police VI confirmed their dominance of local volleyball after both the men’s and women’s teams were crowned Botswana National Volleyball League champions at the finals held at the Royal Aria Indoor Sports Centre in Tlokweng over the weekend.

Known as Ditau and Ditaugadi, the men and women completed unbeaten campaigns of 13 and 10 matches respectively to secure a historic league double.

FINAL THRILLER

The women’s team survived a fierce challenge from BDF VI Ladies to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory in the league decider and complete a clean sweep.

The five-set contest lived up to expectations as both teams showed determination and resilience before Police VI prevailed to complete a memorable double for the club.

The titles marked the culmination of months of hard work, discipline and consistency for Police VI, who maintained their composure throughout the campaign despite stiff competition from leading clubs including Kutlwano, BDF and Spiking Stars, who finished in the top four.

COLLECTIVE EFFORT

Speaking after the historic triumph, Police VI assistant coach Boitirelo Steve Odisitse said the league success reflected the team’s dedication and collective effort throughout the season.

“We are impressed with what the players have achieved. It has been a long and demanding season, but they remained focused from the beginning until the final whistle. Every player contributed to this success, and that is what makes this title special,” he said.

Odisitse said the final against BDF VI Ladies tested the team’s character and that their ability to remain calm during crucial moments proved decisive.

“There were moments when the match could have gone either way, but the players trusted each other and stuck to the game plan. Their mental strength and fighting spirit made the difference when it mattered most,” he added.

CAPTAIN’S PRIDE

Police VI women’s captain Tshiamo Chakalisa described lifting the trophy as a proud moment for the entire squad, saying the players had worked tirelessly to reach the finals.

“This championship means everything to us because we know how much effort everyone has invested throughout the season. We trained hard, supported one another and never lost sight of our goal. Winning the title is a reward for all those sacrifices, we are very happy and vow to remain consistent,” she said.

Chakalisa praised BDF VI Ladies for providing a stern challenge, saying the closely contested final reflected the growing competitiveness of women’s volleyball in Botswana.

“They pushed us all the way and made us work for every point. Matches like these are good for the sport because they show the quality that exists in our league. This will also better and boost the national team performance in the upcoming national team tournaments if we carry on with this performance,” she added.
