Township Rollers coach Nikola Kavazovic has admitted that he might leave the club as a result of the growing interest in his services from a number of teams in some of the best league’s in Africa. Kavazovic joined Rollers last year in June, and was immediately tasked with somewhat of a ‘colosal’ assignment of winning the Mascom Top 8, reaching the group stages of the CAF Champions League and defending the BTC Premiership.
Almost a year now into his new job, the outspoken Serbian coach has made huge strides, winning the Top 8 as well as making Rollers the first ever local team to reach the CAF inter-club competition group stages.
However, this has not gone unseen, a reported host of clubs are said to have been impressed with his progress, and have already launched offers to snatch him away. “It is a difficult one for me to answer, if I told you I have received no offers by now, I will be lying to you, but even if I told you I had offers I would still not tell you which teams have they are,” Kavazovic said in answering to a question of whether he has received any offers.
He added that, “Sometimes in football there are those people who are after money, and there also who are very much doing the job because of passion and commitment. There is also a group of people who do it for both money and passion, so it is never an easy decision. The problem is when you receive offers from top quality leagues like the PSL, which is always difficult to turn them down,” he continued.
Kavazovic would however not be drawn into divulging some of the clubs interested in his service. This publication has also received information that Rollers Technical Director Drago Stanojlovic is another who has attracted some interest. Gazette Sport can reliably reveal that Sudanese side Al Merrikh have been in contact with the former Gaborone United and Mochudi Centre Chiefs coach.
Sources close to the developments state that Drago was requested to send his CV and application following their trip to Sudan last month. He, however made it clear to them that he could only do as requested at the end of the season as his focus was 100 percent on his duties at Township Rollers.
Gazette Sport also understands that should Kavazovic leave, Drago is said to be most likely to leave with him as the two have formed a formidable combination. Meanwhile, he (Kavazovic) says Egypt’s Al Ahly is the only team he would love to avoid in the group stages.
“The only team I would choose to avoid is Al Ahly from Egypt, I think they are the best team in Africa, and I hope we do not draw them in the group stages,” he said. “I would love to have Mamelodi Sundowns in our group. I really think we can play better than them, and we also have a better squad than them,” ended the coach.
