Township Rollers have finally received newly signed Malawain International Gerald Phiri’s International Transfer Certificate (ITC) after having to wait for more than three months. Phiri joined the Popa during the recent January transfer window on a four months loan deal from South African side Bidvest Wits, but has never tasted game time for the club.
This publication previously reported that the delay in the arrival of the former CAPS United playmaker’s ITC was due to the undisclosed fee Wits owed to CAPS for the services of the player. However in an interview with the club’s Public Relations Officer Bafana Pheto confirmed that they recently received the ITC.
“We just recently received his (Phiri) ITC after FIFA confirmed that we are now good to register him,” confirmed Pheto. Pheto, though did note that it would take time before the player starts playing as they are still working on submitting his documents with the League offices.
“What we are now left with, is compiling and submitting his documents with the Premier League, and then that is when the player can start playing,” he briefly added.
Gazette Sport has also established that Rollers are working on securing the player on a permanent deal for next season. In a previous interview with the Malawian starlet, he revealed that he has enjoying life at his new club and would have no problem remaining at the blue half of Gaborone.
