BTC is targeting P1.7 billion in revenue and EBITDA above 35 percent as it leans on data, AI and network investment after a 1.6 percent revenue decline.

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) is targeting P1.7 billion in revenue as it bets on network investment, artificial intelligence and digital services to strengthen its position in an increasingly data-driven market.
The growth push comes after BTC reported revenue of P1.47 billion for the period under review, a 1.6 percent decline, even as mobile subscriptions rose by 30 percent to 757,529 and the active Smega base increased by 49 percent to 122,260.
Growth Target
BTC Board Chairperson-Interim Thato Kewakae said the company had spent the past year making changes and investments intended to prepare it for future growth.
“AI will find a suitable home at BTC, where we aim to lead in its appropriate application,” Kewakae said in BTC’s Integrated Report 2026.
Kewakae said BTC expected stronger revenue from its investments, better use of technology, new products, sharper customer focus and improved internal efficiencies.
“Our sales touchpoints will expand across the country, supporting improved revenue and profitability across all product lines,” he said.
He said improved network quality should lift revenue from mobile and broadband customers as voice, data and financial services are increasingly consumed as integrated product suites.
“We are confident that this will enable us to reach the P1.7 billion revenue mark, with EBITDA consistently above 35 percent in the coming periods,” Kewakae said.
Data Shift
BTC Chief Executive Officer Jürgen Peschel said the substitution of voice by data, together with the shift from fixed-line to mobile services, continued at an accelerated pace.
“In response, BTC has recently undertaken a major capacity expansion across our entire mobile network,” Peschel said.
He said BTC had invested significantly in nationwide data availability and now provided what he described as the widest data coverage in Botswana.
Peschel said further capacity expansions had been implemented to accommodate continued growth in data usage. He also said the recent launch of unlimited packages strengthened BTC’s data proposition.
