Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) sent a team of 5 boxers; 4 males Rajab Otukile Mahommed (49 kg), Kutlwano Ogaketse (52kg), Ontlogetse Qaate (56kg), Atang Kato Masenke (64kg) and one female, Koketso Dipogiso (51kg) to the Africa Youth Games held in Cameroon from 02 March to the 18th of March where the boxers each won a medal at the inter-continental championship.  The boxing national team that was under head coach Master Luza assisted by Othusitse Mogotsakgotla came back home on Monday (10th March) with four silver medals from each male boxer and a  bronze medal for Dipogiso after she lost in the semi finals.
“This five member team is our national boxing team and I think they did exceptionally well because they have never had a national exposure of this magnitude. It is an outstanding performance because it was their first time, “said the PRO of BOBA Mmaotho Segotso.
Segotso continued to say that the same African countries that the team competed with at Cameroon are the same countries that would be coming for the second Africa Youth Games slated for May in Gaborone . “This is an advantage for our team because it would not be the first time that they will face their opponents. They already know them and their skills and that helps us to know what to expect from them,” she said.
The team will return to action again next month (15-25 April) for the World Youth Games Championships slated for Sofia, Bulgaria.
