Botswana’s spotlight on global pageantry is shining brighter than ever, with reigning Miss Botswana, Anicia Gaothusi, preparing to vie for the coveted Miss World crown.

Inspired by the remarkable performance of Lesego Chombo becoming Miss World Africa last year, all eyes are on Botswana as Anicia gears up to make her mark.

While the Miss World Organisation is yet to announce the host country and date, the finale is expected to take place in March, setting the stage for yet another thrilling, if more ambitious, journey for the Tutume beauty.

Top 10 unveiled

Anicia, who was sashed as Miss World Botswana last week, has been busy refining her dance moves, maintaining her fitness regime and finalising her wardrobe for the global competition.

Confident, radiant and determined, she expressed her readiness for the challenge. “I am ready for the world stage,” she told Time Out. “I am just waiting for the official dates to be announced.”

Her preparation reflects the resilience and grace that make her a worthy representative of Botswana on the international platform. In the build-up to the 2025 grand finale, Miss Botswana Organisation unveiled its Top 10 finalists in Gaborone last week.

Transparent and credible

The finalists represent diverse talents and embody the nation’s values, setting the stage for a closely contested event. Miss Botswana PR representative, Ambrosia Samboko, assured the nation of a fair, transparent and credible selection process, emphasising Botswana’s commitment to good governance and public interest.

This year’s judging criteria aim to holistically evaluate contestants, blending public votes, international engagement, and critical attributes like social responsibility and cultural awareness.

Notable segments include the social media and public vote, which reflects the voice of the nation. International Votes are also taken into consideration to amplify Botswana’s presence on the global stage.

The Beauty with a Purpose project is another important aspect that highlights impactful, community-driven initiatives. The judging panel will be assessing the contestants on integrity, leadership potential, communication skills, cultural pride, and national development commitment.

Nation’s aspirations

To uphold transparency, Baker Tilly Certified Auditors will oversee the entire process, verifying votes and monitoring scores. This robust system underscores Miss Botswana’s commitment to selecting a queen who embodies the aspirations of Batswana.

The stakes are higher than ever, with the winner of Miss Botswana 2025 walking away with a treasure trove of prizes, including a brand-new Polo Vivo, a Miss World package worth P150,000, a P150,000 clothing voucher, a P120,000 upkeep allowance, and other third-party gifts.
