Miss Botswana Seeks Next Queen

GOSEGO MOTSUMI

The search for Botswana’s next beauty queen has officially begun. The Miss Botswana 2025 Audition and Beauty with a Purpose Tour launched last week in Tutume, the home village of reigning queen Anicia Gaothusi. Kicking off with the debut of Anicia’s “Lights” project, this tour promises to spotlight not only beauty but also impactful community initiatives as it traverses the country.

A Queen on a Mission

Miss Botswana 2024 returned to her roots in Tutume to launch her Beauty with a Purpose project, Lights, aimed at teaching essential first aid practices to students and elders. Held at Thini Kgotla, the launch marked the start of her nationwide tour, where she hopes to equip local communities with life-saving skills. “By teaching basic first aid, we can empower our people to take care of each other in moments that matter most,” Anicia said at the event.

The Lights project reflects Anicia’s passion for education and health, seeking to leave a lasting impact on future generations by ensuring they are better prepared for emergencies. This initiative will take her across the country, visiting schools and community centers, supported by the Miss Botswana Organization and its key partners.

Searching for the Next Queen

As Anicia launches her tour, the Miss Botswana 2025 auditions are also underway, with the first set of hopefuls taking to the stage in Tutume. The Director of Miss Botswana, Ben Raletsatsi, shared the organization’s excitement about finding the next queen. “We are looking for a queen who will not only continue the legacy of this pageant but also help us bring the Miss World crown home. Our former queens are a testament to the growing power of the Miss Botswana brand.”

Raletsatsi added that they aim to one day host the Miss World pageant in Botswana. “This journey is about more than just a title, but showcasing the beauty, intelligence, and cultural pride of Batswana to the world.”

What it Takes

Becoming Miss Botswana is no small feat. Candidates must meet strict criteria, including being between 18 and 25 years old, unmarried, without children, and free from visible tattoos. Additionally, they are required to submit a summary of their intended community project, as the Miss Botswana crown is not just about beauty but also purpose. An audition fee of P250 is required.

The auditions will continue through the end of the year, traveling to villages and towns across the country in a quest to find the next beauty queen who will carry Botswana’s hopes to the international stage.

Lights, Purpose, Action

Anicia’s journey and the launch of her Lights project serve as a powerful reminder of the role Miss Botswana plays in shaping future leaders. By blending beauty with purpose, the pageant empowers young women to use their platforms for the betterment of society. As the Miss Botswana 2025 auditions continue, the nation eagerly awaits the discovery of a new queen who will shine both at home and on the global stage.
