ROOM 50 Two officially opened with artistic flair

Room50Two boutique hotel was officially opened this past week by President Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi, featuring an exclusive art auction fundraiser. Through a process of special invites, a mix of well-established fine artists and specially identified traditional artists from the Kgalagadi District were invited to present their portfolios. The hotel shortlisted a total of 13 who were commissioned to create artworks for the opening auction.
“It has been brought to my attention that most of the pieces of art used in this hotel are sourced locally, a very commendable undertaking that should be accompanied by quality production on the part of the suppliers,” Masisi said, also commending the hotel’s efforts in play an active role in economic stimulation, job creation and economic growth.
By specially commissioning artwork for the iconic building, the hotel’s management was fulfilling an important component of their Corporate Social Responsibility mandate by auctioning the original artwork to raise money for charity, with part of the auction proceeds going back to the artists.
Room 50 Two’s Head of Project Development, Justin Jose explained that the auction aims to raise funds for the President’s charity of choice. “This is how we would like to show our support to the country’s new leadership. In the same manner we decided to give the artists a portion of the auction proceeds as a continued show of support for their individual art and the community as a whole.”
Housed in Gaborone’s tallest building, the boutique hotel is a welcome addition to the CBD’s growing offering of high end, luxury accommodation and is set to become a favourite amoung leisure and business travelers alike.
