The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has officially endorsed Dr Patrice Motsepe’s candidacy for re-election as President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
In a statement released recently, the BFA confirmed that its National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 26 October and unanimously backed Motsepe, citing his “visionary leadership” and commitment to African football development.
Dr Motsepe, a South African businessman and current CAF president, has championed numerous reforms in African football since assuming office in 2021.
Talent development
The BFA emphasised his experience as a “business leader, football adminisrator, and current CAF president”, crediting him with a profound understanding of the continent’s football challenges, including governance, infrastructure, and talent development.
Said a BFA representative: “Dr Motsepe’s leadership has brought transformative changes that we believe should continue.”
The BFA believes Dr Motsepe’s re-election will build on the “continuity of reforms and innovations” that he has already initiated and has expressed confidence that his leadership will further elevate African football on the global stage.
All levels of the game
“We are confident that Dr Motsepe’s vision will unlock new opportunities for growth at all levels of the game,” said the BFA’s statement.
Scheduled for March 2025, the CAF presidential election has garnered attention, with many African football associations eager to see sustained progress in addressing issues such as resource allocation, talent nurturing, and modern infrastructure.
Under Dr Motsepe’s tenure, CAF has reportedly achieved milestones in these areas, setting new standards and fostering partnerships that benefit member associations.
Critical
In addition to its own endorsement of him, the BFA has urged other CAF member associations across the continent to rally behind Dr Motsepe.
“We believe Dr Motsepe’s leadership is critical for the future of African football,” the BFA statement concluded.
