Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) expects to receive P1 million from Botswana National Sporting Commission (BNSC) for use for development purposes.
The Secretary General of BoBA, Taolo Tlouetsile, shared this in an interview with Gazette Sports, noting a recent letter from BNSC about financial injections into a few select sporting codes as part of a pioneering pilot project linked to sports development in the absence of prominent events like Botswana Games and school sports.
“The initiative by the BNSC is a significant step forward in promoting grassroots sports development and nurturing talent across various disciplines,” he said.
In the wake of this development, Tlouetsile pointed to a recently concluded BOTESSA Boxing Championship for its display of athletic prowess and sportsmanship.
Fervent anticipation
“And we really appreciate the Botswana Tertiary Students Sports Association for including boxing in their programmes,” he said.
He also revealed that BoBA would stage preliminary rounds of its championships that are to kick off this weekend in Francistown that will be followed by the finals in Gaborone a week later.
Tlouetsile’s enthusiasm for the forthcoming events was palpable as he noted the fervent anticipation of high-quality boxing action among fans and the positive impact it will have on Botswana’s sporting ethos.
