Women’s 800m record holder finished sixth in her debut Diamond League race, adding to a string of consistent outings since March this year

Botswana’s women’s 800m national record holder, Oratile Nowe, continued her competitive season with a sixth-place finish in her Diamond League debut on Friday.
The race, held in Stockholm, saw her clock 1:58.78, maintaining her sub-two-minute form.
Nowe’s performance is part of a string of consistent outings this year. She has recorded several competitive times since 12 March: 1:59.46 (12 March), 1:59.22 (4 April), 1:58.96 (12 April), and a national record of 1:58.47 on 31 May.

More recently, Nowe ran 1:59.58 on 9 June and returned to sub-1:59 territory on 15 June with a time of 1:58.78.
She was Botswana’s sole female athletics representative at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and is currently the only Motswana woman to have met the qualification standard for the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships.
She trains under the Sepeng Athletics Project in Pretoria, a programme that has seen her reach new milestones since joining.
Also representing Botswana at the Stockholm Diamond League was Kethobogile Haingura, who finished sixth in the men’s 800m race with a time of 1:43.61.
