- Segolame Boy set to leave Rollers for free if club cannot convince him to sign an extension
- Boy attracting PSL interest
- Rollers still waiting for feedback from Boy
Township Rollers have been forced to adopt a waiting game approach in the contract situation surrounding Segolame Boy. Boy’s contract is set to elapse in June and the player will be allowed to leave for free, however, Rollers still feel they have a fighting chance to convince the player to sign a contract extension.
Rollers, well aware that they could lose one of their prized assets for free, have already made an informal offer to Boy to renew his contract. Gazette Sport has gathered that Rollers made the first move by informing the player of their intention to discuss a contract renewal, they have revealed that Boy agreed to meet the club but they are still waiting for him to set a proper date.
Rollers’ spokesman, Bafana Pheto told this publication that they are waiting for feedback from Boy’s camp regarding contract talks and they are hopeful of receiving a positive response. “We have informed him of our intentions, we have invited him to negotiate a new deal and he told us that he will find time to meet us but that has not happened yet, we are waiting for his response. We will always remain hopeful of signing a contract extension because we value his presence, we want him to stay,” said Pheto.
Rollers are facing a race against time to convince the player to sign on the dotted line as he has already attracted PSL interest with Free State Stars leading the race for his signature. Free State Stars are under the tutelage of former Rollers coach Nikola Kavazovic, Stars also signed Simisani Mathumo in recent months and they are believed to be eyeing another Rollers player.
Boy has been linked with numerous PSL clubs since 2015 but none of the clubs made concrete offers and the interest waned in recent years. Kavazovic’s presence at Stars is believed to be the main reason why the player has been linked with the PSL side.
If Rollers can convince the player to sign an extension they could still sanction his move to South Africa and gain a transfer fee as opposed to losing him for free as things stand. The club has always maintained that they will not stand in the way of their players if they have a chance to play outside the country.
