15 October 2024. With less than a week until the 2024 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, excitement is growing as athletes from around the world prepare to participate in the prestigious event in Cape Town, South Africa, from 18 to 20 October.
Athlete Sponsorship
This year, SanlamAllianz, in collaboration with the BIHL Group, is sponsoring professional African athletes to attend and compete in the marathon at no cost. The sponsorship covers travel and participation expenses for these elite runners.
“We are passionate about empowering the people of Africa to live and thrive with confidence, and our involvement in this prestigious event is a way for us to continue to foster the growth of Africa’s economy and support the unparalleled potential of its people,” said Gaffar Hassam, Executive: Brand, Strategy & Corporate Affairs at SanlamAllianz.
Pan-African Representation
Hassam further emphasized that, as a pan-African financial services leader, SanlamAllianz selected 25 talented athletes from several of their 27 operating markets to represent Africa at the marathon, which is the continent’s only race with Abbott World Marathon Majors candidacy.
Botswana’s Participation
At a recent send-off event, BIHL Group Executive: Corporate Distribution & Stakeholder Management, Thomas Masifhi, highlighted Sanlam’s commitment to supporting Botswana’s athletic talent, noting the growing popularity of athletics as a career for young Batswana.
“We are proud to send off some of Botswana’s leading athletes to once again fly the country’s flag high at the marathon,” said Masifhi.
Record Participation
The 2024 marathon is set to be one of the most exciting in its history, with a record-breaking 21,000 participants and the strongest elite field ever to compete on African soil.
