The SPAR Foundation donated a newly upgraded sports field to Batlokwa National Primary School in Tlokweng on 16 September 2024. This contribution enhances the school’s infrastructure and reflects SPAR’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and grassroots sports development.
Community Support
The handover event saw attendance from local leaders, educators, and SPAR representatives, who all acknowledged the impact the new sports field would have on the community. SPAR’s community projects coordinator, Janine Wilkinson, emphasized the significance of the donation, stating, “It represents the start of a relationship between us and Batlokwa National School and the Tlokweng area in general.”
Wilkinson added that SPAR’s goal goes beyond infrastructure, as the company is investing in the future of the children who will benefit from the field. The donation, she noted, was a step toward helping local children access facilities that could positively impact their lives.
Boost for Youth Development
For Tlokweng, the donation symbolizes more than an infrastructure upgrade—it offers hope for youth development and recreational engagement. The sports field is expected to provide a platform for nurturing young talent in line with Botswana’s growing sports culture. Mrs. Gaseitsewe, head of Batlokwa National Primary School, expressed her gratitude, saying, “We felt very privileged to receive such a donation from SPAR.”
The initiative also received praise from local government representatives. Councillor Kgakgamatso Kgokong, Vice Chairperson of the Education and Health Committee, recognized SPAR’s efforts in complementing government aspirations to develop communities despite limited resources.
Continued Community Engagement
The Batlokwa Sports Field donation is part of SPAR’s broader mission to uplift local communities by creating spaces that promote wellness and growth. Beyond this project, SPAR has been active in Tlokweng, hosting weekly soup kitchens in collaboration with the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Wilkinson also hinted at future collaborations aimed at further community development.
