SOWA-TOWN: In its quest to better its position from the one attained at the last Botswana Games held in Gaborone in 2011 Sowa-Town council Mayor George Maphane says they have already started preparations in earnest. In this year’s games scheduled for Francistown in December, Maphane has stated their intention to send 150 athletes in order to have more representation that can improve their position.
“We have already started our preparations for these games. We started with the formation of the technical structures which include selection of coaches and team managers of all sporting codes. Teachers in both government and non-governmental schools have shown willingness to help in preparations and we should applaud them for this. Our success is reliant on the commitment of the leaders and civil community, therefore we need to work collaboratively to achieve what we want,” observed Sowa-Town Mayor last week when addressing full council.
Maphane said with early preparations of the Botswana Games there is need for the organizing committee to engage in a robust resource mobilization by beseeching the civil community and business community to invest in the development of future stars.
“We urge the business community to help us with the little they have to unearth talent in our region. We have to understand that we are doing it for our country,” emphasized Maphane. In addition the Sowa-Town Mayor urged the organizing committee to select the required age limit of athletes.
