With the date set and less than a month to the Orange Phikwe National Marathon, the Gaborone Striders Running Club joined the Orange Running Club this past weekend in Lentsweletau in preparation for the marathon which is set for 11 August 2018.
The long run, which comprised of 30km, 20km and 10km runs was an effort to prepare both teams for the Phikwe Marathon. With a turnout of over 60 runners, the weekend activation is considered a success and is a good indicator of positive interest in the Phikwe Marathon.
According to Orange Public Relations Officer, Ms Carol Kgafela, the Gaborone Striders have heeded their call to participate in the annual marathon as well as work with the organising committee as technical advisers to ensure that a top notch marathon is delivered in Phikwe this year.
“We have received various feedback from past participants of the marathon and would like to take this opportunity to reassure everyone that we are working hard and tirelessly to deliver a top notch event this year. As one of the oldest and experienced running clubs in Gaborone, we have roped in the Gaborone Striders as technical advisers, and we are both committed to working together to right the wrongs of the past and make the OPM one of the best marathons in the country,” she said.
In addition to the support in organisation of the marathon, the Gaborone Striders are expected to throng the Phikwe Marathon on 11 August in large numbers. Registration for the marathon is on-going with the target being 1200 which will be an improvement on last years 800 runners. This year’s marathon will feature the usual 4km fun race; 10km; 15km and 42km races
