Locals to headline Fete de la musique

Local artists will headline the Fete de la musique show this year unlike previous versions where artists from neighbouring countries dominated.
“Rebecca Venture is the only international artist we have coming for the Fete and they will be brought in by the American Embassy who are our partners. For this year’s show, we wanted to really showcase local talent,” said Cultural Coordinator at Alliance Francaise Gaborone, Hanna Rochetang.

Rhythm and soul, African contemporary dance, Afro deep house, Jazz, Folklore, Hip Hop, Gospel, Kwaito, poetry, traditional, rock, reggae and Motswako are some of the genres that will be well represented. Established artists, Scar, Samantha Mogwe, Zeus, Mophato Dance Theatre, Clement Jackson as well as the likes of Motswafere, Maya Roze, Bollywood girls, Benson Phuthego, Keb, Basarwa, Dj Spinz, The Metrophones, Sebongile Kgaila, Frekazoid, Jahman State and many others will be on the line up. There will be about 32 artists confirmed so far and the number will likely increase.

“It’s good to see a local line up that covers all genres. That in itself reflects our entertainment industry and I am excited to be part of this year’s lineup. People can expect a bit of the old and a bit of the new from my performance, as I will be live,” said Zeus.

Akhutleng Mogami  of the Metrophones expressed excitement that they were part of the lineup, “we can’t wait for the actual day and although our time on stage is really short, we are excited. We are going to blow them away in 10 minutes. Our set will be at around 5 in the evening and we can only hope there is a big enough crowd to enjoy what we have to offer.”
