Legendary South African guitarist Selaelo Selota alongside local vocalist Lizibo will headline the first 2017 Mascom Live Sessions on 28th April at Botswana Craft.
Selota’s songs sung in Sepedi, including ‘Thrr Phaa’ and Mma Modiegi’ which are a staple of the Botswana jazz scene. His albums, Enchanted Gardens and Painted Faces also continue to enjoy airplay in Botswana radio. The latter album which was well received in the country, was his breakthrough album.
“We took our fans comments in to consideration in regard to always repeating international artist in the live sessions, so we decided to bring Selaelo Selota. As we all know Selota is a smooth jazz guitarist highly regarded in South Africa, so it will be a nice, relaxed event to start off our Mascom live Sessions”, Botswana Craft director Oliver Groth told Time Out.
Meanwhile for his part, supporting afro pop artist Lizibo stated he is eager to rub shoulders with Selota but will be eager to impress his fans on the night.
“Preparations are already underway for the live sessions and it will be a huge honour for me to share the stage with a guitor legend in Selota. My performance will be divided in a set of 3 sets in spiritual,dance and lastly to remind the crowd how to love each other.As always my fans should expect a soulful set from me and to Selota I hope he comes prepared as sometimes give international acts a run for their money, ” Lizibo told Time Out.
Tickets for the show are sold at Botswana craft for P250. After this, the next Mascom Live Sessions will be held end of August.
