The eagerly anticipated 2024 DStv Content Creator Awards are set to take place this weekend at the Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg with popular television personality assigned Anele Mdoda hosting duties. The event will be of particular interest to Botswana’s content creators and culinary enthusiasts as influential social media personality Kenneth Middleton is among the night’s award hopefuls.

Only Motswana

Middleton is the only Motswana who is up for an award in this year’s event. The 2024 event is the third edition of the award ceremony. It brings together content creators, musicians, actors and podcasters in one setting as they are placed in different award categories. The event’s organizers have stated that the event celebrates innovative content creators who continue o demonstrate that they “represent a digital voices that define the digital age,”

Nominated

Middleton has been nominated in the Foodie Award category whereby he is vying for an award against four southern African counterparts. The culinary influencer will be competing against Sifo the Cooking Husband, Cooking with Zanele, Mush Kitchen and Karabo Didi.

The Foodie Award is one of only a few categories which will be decided by a panel of judges while other categories were open for public voting which ended on September 26. Mush Kitchen won the award last year and they are challenging for a second successive honour in the Foodie Award category. TV personality and chef Lorna Maseko won the Foodie category in the inaugural edition of the award ceremony in 2022. Should Middleton win, he would become the first Motswana to win the award category.

Nerve wrecking

In a previous interview with Time Out in August, Middleton stated that being nominated alongside culinary personalities he looks up to was an honour. The self-taught chef stated that the nomination brings great joy with an element of nervousness as the event draws closer.

“It was nerve wrecking when I received an email informing me that I had made the top 10. I was to wait to find out if I had cracked the top 5 to become an official nominee. The nerves are back as I await the 12th of October for the award ceremony in Johannesburg to find out if I shall be victorious,” Middleton previously told this publication.
